Local Motors had a competition, internationally they had 90 concepts for a vintage looking motorized bike, this is the winner

A three-week design challenge took place May 21 - June 14, 2013. At the end of the challenge, Local Motors Community members from 17 countries had submitted a total of ninety (90) finished entries. After a comprehensive design review by the Local Motors team and a global community vote, the winning concept, the Ariel Cruiser by Ianis Vasilatos of Romania, was selected as the first community-designed gas-powered bicycle to be produced under the Local Motors brand. The Local Motors Cruiser will be available for purchase in the Shop at LocalMotors.com later this year.

"The Ariel Cruiser concept presented by Ianis was a compelling balance between the inspiration of vintage boardtrack racing presented in the challenge, and a look that was entirely its own,” said Jay Rogers, Local Motors Co-Founder and CEO. “Ianis' design is extreme, with an aggressive stance, totally custom engine covers, a signature tank shape and mounting style, low-slung handlebars and horizontal body layout totally reminiscent of the boardtrack racer heritage. When so many bicycle styles already exist, it is impressive to see a design that still can stand apart from the masses. It will be even more exciting to see it in physical form, ready for riding."

For his first place concept Ianis Vasilatos (aka vasilatos_ianis) from Romania, will be awarded a $2,000 cash prize and the first production Local Motors Cruiser.

“To design a motorized bicycle reminiscent of the early 1900s was a dream of mine that began a long time ago. And my passion for this era will never stop,” said Ianis Vasilatos. “All parts of my Ariel Cruiser design were intended to give a nod back to the history of boardtrack racing and early motorbicycles: the motor and engine covering, the fuel tank and straps that hold the tank, the other elements of leather and the seat are all very respectful to this history.”

a Duesenburg that didn't get past the drawing and planning stages of a coachbuilder, but was created by Franklin Mint in 1:24 scale, the 1939 Duesenberg Coupe Simone Midnight Ghost

if actually made into a car it would be the only vehicle I can suppose would rival the Jonkheere Rolls Royce for design excellance

The car was made by the american car body designer Emmet-Armand on the basis of the Duesenberg Type J. They only made one of them which was ordered by the French cosmetics king Gui(Guy) De LaRouche

1939 Duesenberg Coupe Simone Midnight Ghost - LE Issued on the 10th anniversary of the car that never was, this incredible die-cast model is the creation of acclaimed designer Raffi Minasian. Inspired by the modernist lines of the Art Deco movement, it captures all the romance of a bygone era. The graceful sweep of the fenders, the luxuriously appointed interior complete with a crystal-clear steering wheel - every detail of the designer's vision brought unforgettably to life. Hand-painted an elegant Midnight Ghost, this special anniversary Limited Edition bears the designer's signature on a plaque mounted to the undercarriage.

The Coupe Simone – A Brief History

The story of the Duesenberg Coupe Simone and Emmett-Armand Coachworks was first revealed in 1996 at The Franklin Mint Museum exhibit, "Crossroads." Chronicled by Designers Roger Hardnock and Raffi Minasian, this unique presentation revealed the recently discovered remnants of the coachworks, a diary of the events leading up to the delivery of the Simone in Paris, and drawings of this unusual car under development.

In 1998, Franklin Mint Precision Models released the 1:24 scale die-cast replica of the Coupe Simone.

– The "Midnight Ghost" Emmett-Armand Coachworks had been working on the Coupe Simone for more than a year when plans began to develop for new projects.

LaRouche, a wealthy cosmetics king and patron for the project, arrived at the coachworks late in the evening. Had the train been on time, LaRouche might have arrived earlier and appreciated the subtlety of the metallic black and silver trim as it glowed in the early sunset light. Instead, he was not pleased with the "rather evil appearance," calling upon Emmett and Armand to "please research a color combination more becoming to that of his refined tastes." Emmett, attempting to divert LaRouche's discontent, invited him to take the car for a drive. An excerpt from Armand's diary recalls the results:

"Although the two had only left a few minutes before, their early return was punctuated by the fact that Emmett was driving. LaRouche exited the car visibly shaken as Emmett came around to steady him, stumbling with his walking cane. We offered LaRouche (more accustomed to chauffeurs) some calming tea as he confessed that he had only driven a few times in cars featuring no more than 20 or 30 horsepower. His ghostly white face and trembling hands convinced us that the supercharged version of this car would be nothing more than a waste and certainly a hazard to our client. Emmett and I removed the supercharger and offered it for return to the Duesenberg Company. Curiously, they encouraged us to retain the unit should we have a use for it in future projects."

this is great, a visual guide from 1939 to the most common cars of the time

Original drawings from George Sheppard, then reproduced in 1939 by Colliers Weekly magazine
but I found this on my favorite site, http://carrosantigos.wordpress.com because Nik finds the coolest stuff and shares it!

far from the utilitarian work tractor, this 1948 orchard model from IH McCormick Deering is very streamlined!

for info: http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/004/9/8/4988-mccormick-deering-o-4.html

IH commissioned an industrial designerRaymond Loewy, to give the new Farmall general-purpose tractors a sleek new streamlined look. Designed for small-to-medium size American farms, IH's new machines offered a wider variety of capabilities, engines, and equipment options.
IH took care to produce a model for almost every farm and every need.  Sales took off, and letter-series production did not end until 1954. Overall, the Farmall 'letter' series, well built and affordable, became not only a defining product line in IH history, but an iconic symbol of the prototypical American small-farm tractor. Many machines (especially the two largest models, the H and M) are still in operation on farms today.
