No One In The West Is Listening To Netanyahu's Worries On Iran

Analysis: Netanyahu's Sense Of Urgency On Iran Fails To Impress War-Weary West -- Jerusalem Post

One Western diplomat involved in Iranian nuclear diplomacy described Netanyahu as "out of step" with the mood of detente that has emerged recently.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this week that Iran's new president was a "wolf in sheep's clothing", but he himself looked increasingly like a lone wolf as his allies seek to bring Tehran into the fold.

After years of worrying about Iran's disputed nuclear ambitions, Netanyahu took to the stage at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday and made his most explicit threat yet to attack the Islamic republic unless it ends its atomic program.

Poll: Two Thirds Of Israeli Jews Back A Unilateral Military Strike Against Iran's Nuclear Facilities

Israelis say that if necessary their country should launch its own strike on Iran. Israel Hayom

Most Israelis Would Support Striking Iran Alone -- USA Today

A whopping 84% of the 500 Hebrew-speaking Israelis polled said they do not believe diplomacy will deter Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

JERUSALEM — Two-thirds of Israelis would support a unilateral Israeli strike against Iranian nuclear targets if they believed their country was in real danger of attack, according to a new opinion poll.

The poll was conducted less than a week after Iranian President Hasan Rouhani told the United Nations that his country's nuclear power is intended solely for peaceful purposes, and that Iran is open to negotiations and clarifications related to its nuclear capabilities.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the U.N. that "Israel will not allow Iran to get nuclear weapons."

"If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone," he said.

The Case Of An Iranian Spy Caught In Israel

Iran's New Spy Story Says A Lot About How Tehran Conducts Espionage -- Bushiness Insider

Today Ha’aretz has a detailed report on the recent roll-up of an Iranian intelligence operative who two weeks ago was unmasked and detained by Israeli counterintelligence. As this revelation comes just two days after President Obama’s historic phone call with President Rouhani, his Iranian counterpart, the timing appears significant.

Skeptics are already noting that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is coming to Washington, DC, this week to talk with Obama — whom he clearly dislikes — must be savoring this. But the story is more complex, and interesting, than it appears.

PM Netanyahu Warns Iran That Israel Will Stop Their Nuclear Program If Necessary

Israel Will Stop Iran By Itself If Necessary, Netanyahu Tells UN -- Times of Israel

Sanctions have put Iran ‘on the ropes,’ and now Rouhani is trying to ‘fool the world’ to get them lifted, PM tells General Assembly. ‘It’s a ploy. Don’t let up,’ he urges

NEW YORK — Israel will act on its own if necessary to stop Iran attaining nuclear weapons, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

There should be no confusion over this, Netanyahu stressed in a calm, gimmick-free address, warning that “Israel will never acquiesce to nuclear arms in the hands of a rogue regime that repeatedly promises to wipe us out.”

“If Israel is forced to stand alone” against that threat, “Israel will stand alone,” he said, though it would know that it was also defending others.

Iran's President Calls On Israel To Join The Non-Nuclear Treaty

Iran’s new president has called on Israel to join an international treaty banning the spread of nuclear weapons, chiding the Jewish state for being the only Middle East nation that has failed to do so.

The speech by President Hassan Rouhani came hours before a meeting that was to mark the highest-level direct contact in six years between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s disputed nuclear activities.

'Almost four decades of international efforts to establish a nuclear weapon-free zone in the Middle East have regrettably failed,' Mr Rouhani told a United Nations meeting on nuclear disarmament on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

Israel Reaction To The UN Speech From The Iranian President

As The New Iranian Leader Gets A Warm Reception, Israel Calls For Caution -- New York Times

JERUSALEM — With the United States and other nations extending an increasingly warm welcome to the new president of Iran at the United Nations this week in New York, Israel finds itself in a bind: eager to unmask what it sees as an empty charm offensive, yet at risk of being seen as a spoiler unwilling to consider the possibility of change in Tehran’s nuclear policy.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel expressed appreciation Tuesday for President Obama’s statement in his United Nations address that “Iran’s conciliatory words will have to be matched by action that is transparent and verifiable.” Mr. Netanyahu said, “Israel would welcome a genuine diplomatic solution that truly dismantles Iran’s capacity to develop nuclear weapons.” But he ordered Israel’s delegation to boycott the speech by the new Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, and accused Iran of offering only “cosmetic concessions.”

Did President Obama ‘Veto’ An Israeli Strike On Iran Last Year?

Report: Obama ‘Vetoed’ Israeli Strike on Iran -- Washington Free Beacon

Strike would have occurred during height of 2012 election campaign.

President Barack Obama refused to let Israel strike Iran last year despite the Israeli prime minister’s willingness to sign off on such an attack, according to statements made by a former top Israeli military leader earlier this week.

Giora Eiland, a former national security adviser to the Israeli government and a retired Major General in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), told the Israeli press that Obama “vetoed” the strike, which was planned to take place at the height of the 2012 election cycle.

“Israel has the capability to destroy the Iranian nuclear program” and was prepared to do so, Eiland was quoted as saying in a private meeting earlier this month, according to the Israeli paper Mida.

My Comment: I am skeptical of this report. If true .... this is a big story .... and there is no way that it could be kept secret for this long in either Israel or Washington.

Will Israel Now Face Iran And It's Nuclear Program Alone?

Israeli officials said that Obama telephoned Netanyahu as part of effort to coordinate both states' next moves regarding Syria. Fars News Agency

As Syria Celebrates Obama's “Retreat,” Israel Worries of Iran Implications -- The Slatest

A Syrian state-run newspaper did not mince words Sunday, writing in a front-page editorial that President Obama’s decision to seek congressional authorization for a military strike amounted to a “retreat” by the United States. "Obama announced yesterday, directly or through implication, the beginning of the historic American retreat," the al-Thawra newspaper said, according to Reuters. The newspaper also noted that Obama’s apparent reluctance to launch a strike comes from his “sense of implicit defeat and the disappearance of his allies,” according to the Associated Press translation.

Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister Kadri Jamil was even more blunt, telling a Lebanese television network that Obama “was defeated before the war began,” according to Israel’s Arutz Sheva. The Syrian official added that the seeming back-and-forth from Washington “has made a mockery of the U.S. administration all over the world.”
