Colombia's Farc rebels have announced a "pause" in peace talks with the government to study a proposal that any peace deal must be put to a referendum.
President Juan Manuel Santos on Thursday submitted the proposal seeking to hold the referendum on the same day as national elections next year.
The Farc has been pushing for a Constituent Assembly instead, hoping to later change the nation's constitution.
The talks between Bogota and the left-wing rebels began in Cuba last year.
The Farc announced its move in a statement in Cuba's capital, Havana.
