Three Rescued From Navy Helicopter Crash In Red Sea, Two Still Missing -- NBC

Three crew members were safely rescued, but two are still missing after a U.S. Navy helicopter crashed in the Red Sea on Sunday during routine flight operations, military officials said.

The MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter, assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 6 — nicknamed the HSC Indians — went down in the Central Red Sea at about noon local time, according to an official with the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet.

Three who went down with the helicopter were found in “stable” condition, according to the official.

The USS Nimitz is leading the search and rescue mission for the two remaining crew members who were aboard the helicopter with the aid of planes, helicopters and five additional ships, officials said.

Steven Cheek "woke up one day" to find his brother had sent him a link to a website.

"It was a site called Reddit. I had never heard of it before."

On the site was a photo of Cheek smoking a cigarette, drinking the energy drink Rip It, sitting in front of a U.S. Marine Osprey helicopter that had landed awkwardly and tipped over.

The original poster, a Redditor called Keggerrs, pretended to be the Marine in the picture. He made up a story to go with the photo, telling readers how the helicopter leaked hydraulic fuel and made a hard landing, forcing the Marines to evacuate into hostile terrain and mitigate an ensuing firefight.

Bus And Via Train Accident In Ottawa Hits 'Too Close To Home'

Driver, Five Passengers Confirmed Dead As OC Transpo Bus, Via Train Collide -- Ottawa Citizen

OTTAWA — Six people have been confirmed dead after a northbound No. 76 double-decker OC Transpo bus and a Via Rail train collided near the Fallowfield station in Barrhaven Wednesday morning.

Fatalities on the scene included the bus driver and four passengers. A fifth passenger later died in hospital.

In total, 31 victims were taken to hospital, 11 in critical condition. Patients from the crash scene were distributed among the Ottawa hospitals, said paramedic chief Anthony DiMonte. Four went to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, four to the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital, six to the General campus and 17 to the Montfort Hospital.

My Comment: Because of some work that I do in Ottawa, I take this train (Montreal to Ottawa .... and back) on the third Friday of each month. My next trip was for this Friday .... and specifically on this train's early morning schedule. Makes you appreciate how life can be disrupted and/or ended just like that. On a side note .... I am always worried about terrorism when I board such soft targets (i.e. trains, buses, etc.) .... but it is accidents and/or collisions like this one that have a greater probability of injuring or killing someone like me than some random act of terrorism.

Reddit user Keggerss posted an image of a Marine Osprey lodged in a precarious angle on a wall in Afghanistan. There he is in front, smoke dangling, drinking Rip It, the energy drink ubiquitous to the combat-zone.

Sometimes things get so bad, you have no choice but to smile and laugh.

My Comment: I know how that soldier feels. I survived a bad car crash about 20 years ago .... the car was wrecked but I did not have a scratch. Yup .... the incredible elation of knowing that you have just survived something that could have turned out into something really bad is indescribable.

B-1 bomber crash: Out of South Dakota's Ellsworth Air Force Base in a remote area of southeastern Montana on Monday a B-1 bomber crashed. The four crew members ejected from the aircraft before the bomber crashed, but there were some injuries.

A B-1B bomber out of South Dakota's Ellsworth Air Force Base crashed in a remote area of southeastern Montana on Monday but the four crew members survived, Air Force officials said.

The two pilots and two weapons system officers ejected from the aircraft before the bomber crashed near Broadus, Mont., said Col. Kevin Kennedy, commander of the 28th Bomb Wing. He said the crew survived but there were some injuries.
