Mysterious Listening Devices Found At Future Headquarters Of Defence Department -- Canada.com

Former Nortel campus was subject of decade-long industrial espionage.

OTTAWA — Workers preparing the former Nortel complex as the new home for the Department of National Defence have discovered electronic eavesdropping devices, prompting new fears about the security of the facility.

It’s not clear whether the devices were recently planted or left over from an industrial espionage operation when Nortel occupied the complex.

Asked for details about the listening devices and whether they were still functioning, the DND responded with a statement to the Citizen that it takes security at its installations seriously.

Watching the World descend into economic tyranny due to the IMF and Private for Profit only Banks, really angers the hell out of me, but being Canadian, it especially angers me for what is going on here in Canada…because our government is a party to the theft taking place right here…and that is regardless of what brand of politic sits in governance of our nation.

I was brought up believing that the Banking system in Canada was sound and far superior than the rest of the World simply because we had our own National Bank to issue our own money...and from 1935 to 1974 that was certainly true. But it has not been true since.

Born in Montreal Quebec, Canada in 1960, I’ve seen a lot of things happen to this great country of ours over the years, but I was extremely puzzled why, despite the abundance of our natural resources and government imposed high taxation that we had no money to function or healthy economy. One day I decided to find out why.

What I discovered was that there was a massive theft taking place right under our noses by the IMF and all the other private banks that secretly had embedded themselves into the fabric of our Canadian economy & community…What makes the massive banking crimes so maddening is that I also discovered that all the past and present, Federal & Provincial governments in Canada have had full knowledge of the theft and have been a party to it.

This theft has been going on since 1974 through Federal Conservative, & Liberal governments, and through the Provincial governments of the Conservative, Liberal, NDP, and Parti Quebecois parties. They ALL knew what was going on, and by their knowledge of these banking crimes, they have all committed treason against the people of  this nation for doing nothing about it. Maybe the Chamber of Commerce has something to do with it…since all political parties feast there.

By giving the power to create money to the IMF & its ring of Private Banks, and also by giving our natural resources to foreign business cartels, The Federal & Provincial governments have sold out the Canadian people!…est les Quebec libre aussi. We’re not so libre as we might like so we are all in this mess together.

The debt we owe today, with the National and Provincial debt combined, comes to around 1 Trillion dollars. The interest payment on 1 Trillion dollars if it was at 4% is 40 billion dollars. That works out to about 110 million dollars every day just to pay the interest on a loan that should never have been made in the first place!

The Bank of Canada:

The Bank of Canada was created in 1935 to restart the Canadian economy and regain the peoples trust through a Canadian centralized banking system. The issuance of our own currency, by our own National Bank came without interest or compound interest added, thus allowing Canada to prosper and not go into debt despite the huge work projects and social programs that were created to elevate society back from the trash heap.

Huge government programs were created to put people back to work and thus created some of the most important National Corporations between those thriving years of 1935 to 1974. These corporations were owned by Canadians under a banking system that used an interest free currency…everything belonged to us during that time, including the right to make our own budget.

Large-scale social programs such as Medicare, and social benefits for families…old age pensions all emerged out of this economic model…and it was a model that worked for everyone while it was in place.

The Personal Income Tax collected from individuals became the government’s biggest source of income to keep our own sovereign system in place. In essence, We worked and invested in our country at the same time. The nation prospered and provided us with a higher standard of living while not going into to debt.

All was well and fine until 1974 when the Government of Canada gave the IMF and private banks the power to create the Canadian dollar and to charge us compound interest on loaning us our own money. The result of this giveaway is that we no longer have control of our currency or our governing budget. It belongs to private banks and their centralized private I.M.F.

Since 1974, Federal and Provincial government budgets are borrowed from Private Banks with Compound interest attached. That means we lose large amounts of our wealth and hard earned money to pay back the compound interest that came with the loans…and since the money has to come from somewhere, Canadians became tax targets while at the same time we lose our social programs by government spending cuts directed and ordered by the IMF through banking blackmail. The international economic system is completely rigged…in other words, if you don’t do what the IMF tells you, your bond rating will be lowered and the interest on the loans will be increased…

Compound interest, by practice, steals all the money slated to maintain our infrastructure and social programs…as the interest on the loan builds, the debt increases, which then gives the governments the ok to increase our taxes, or borrow more money from the private banks. The whole charade sends the economy into perpetual inflation mode. This cycle has drastically lowered our standard of living since 1974 and All past & present governments are responsible and should be questioned on their knowledge of the theft taking place, or their incompetence of what was taking place….a thorough PUBLIC investigation into this is required at the very LEAST!

Shortly after the IMF took control of our monetary system, our National Corporations such as the Canadian National Railway, Air Canada, and Petro Canada, were sold by the Canadian government at the behest of those that control and loan us our money. Have a look into the Chamber of Commerce…there you’ll see where government business decisions come from. The Chamber of Commerce is a Private Club made up of Banks and Big Business Owners. Needless to say, National Corporations were sold to international private interests, And now they want to sell off programs by privatizing things like health care.

It is very important to note, that what disappeared with National Corporations such as Petro Canada, was the control of our natural resources and the profits they would have brought directly into the country’s coffers if we were not enslaved to the IMF and their scheme of compound debt. Instead, all profits from our natural resources go into the private pockets of the Corporate Share Holders while the rest of us pay increased taxes and allow them to steal it.

Corruption:

International Corporations pay rental fees to the Provincial & Federal Governments on the Canadian land they are raping…of course anyone in government that is pushing for corporate interests is on a committee that receives special compensation. To me this is nothing short of bribery…this type of behavior is shady, dishonest, and amounts to high treason against the people of Canada and should be publicly investigated with prison sentences for those found guilty. In light of these accusations I am making here, I find that the government is nothing more than a crime syndicate for big business, and it is time for these criminals to GO!

Now that the pillars of economic stability have been removed, Canadians find themselves at the mercy of the International banks that are TELLING us what to keep, what to sell and where to cut the budget. Our government not only sold us out, they refuse to change the economic climate for the betterment of its people…that means they do not work for the people of Canada but the private owners of the International Banks!

The next Canadian Federal election is in 2015 so we have time to organize the people of this country to take back our nation. To know which politician to vote for, make sure they are decidedly for removing the Private banks from issuing our money and to nationalize ALL our resources. It’s time to take our country back and this is the way to do it.

The changes made to the new Canadian Twenty Dollar Bill ($20.00) proves itself to be another example of a stab by the Harper Government directly at the First Nations People of this country. It is also perceived as an imperial statement to glorify war. The new 20 which is the most common note used throughout Canada, leaves the Impression of subservience. It’s a real kick in the teeth to anyone that believes Canada is a free and Independent nation.

In my opinion, the new Canadian $20.00 dollar bill drives home the fact that Canada is not an independent nation but one that is still controlled by Britain. To further bring this point home, witness the recent actions and statement of British Foreign Secretary William Hague where he announced that Britain and Canada were to clinch an agreement to establish joint diplomatic missions in other states in a bid to cut costs. Hague also said that, “the new partnership will give “BRITAIN" a bigger reach abroad for less cost”. (1)

Another revealing statement was made last year in 2011 by British Premier David Cameron where he said, “We are two nations, but under one Queen and united by one set of values”. (2) What set of values was he talking about? Was it the position that both countries were aligned in past military conflicts or is it Canada’s present day change from peacekeepers to one of military aggression with the UK? Cameron’s statement is also perceived as an arrogant reminder that we do not have complete independence from Britain politically, or monetarily and since Canadian money is “BORROWED” with an added interest by the Bank of Canada for the Government of Canada (3), Cameron is telling Canadians flat out that we are subservient to their crumbling empire.

The NEW Canadian 20 dollar Bill

The New twenty dollar bill boldly shows the WWI Vimy Ridge memorial, which does not rest in Canada, but in France. The WW I memorial was unveiled by British Monarch “King Edward VIII in 1936 when Canada still flew a colonial flag. Following an extensive multi-year restoration, Queen Elizabet II rededicated the memorial on April 9^th, 2007 when Canada had its own flag.(4) The figurehead, “Queen Elizabeth II” is placed smack in the Middle of this new 20 dollar bill in a sea of sickly coloured lime green.

What really stands out is how European the new note is with no traces of Canada or the people of this Country. Removing the Indigenous Art is like removing the heart and soul of this nation for an Imperial standard of the old Roman Empire…it sure feels that way.

If one was to travel the unofficial threads of history, by tracing the money trail of the European Royal families back to the ruling elite and Patrician class of the Roman Empire, one could also draw the conclusion that World War I was the final war to end all wars between these self imposed Monarchies and rulers of men. A winner take all won by an elite that quickly claimed all spoils of war for their own, including the people as their subjects. I don’t like the new Canadian twenty dollar bill because it does not reflect Canada, it reflects British Rule.

When your government gives their blessing for another country to commit mass murder of men, women and children, it means that they would have no problems doing so on the population within their own country, or sections of it. Let us not forget that these Western Nations are the very same countries that spoke of humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria but instead approved a coordinated bombing campaign or provided the weapons and funding to hired terrorists from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other autocratic states to do the job for them. Such is the case in Syria and to a large extent, also in Libya back in 2011. However, in the case of Libya, western countries took an active role in bombing the Libyan people into the Stone Age, where once a thriving population lived in peace and prosperity. Today Libya lays in ruins with our freedom and liberty banks imposing massive debt for the destruction they caused. Nothing will be repaired and no one will receive justice as is the case in Iraq, and Afghanistan.

In Syria, the same western nations are training, funding and giving weapons to their hired thugs to completely destroy the country as they have launched a full scale bombing campaign on the Syrian population. Now the same western countries are in full support of wiping out the entire nation of Palestine especially Gaza where 1.5 million people are imprisoned and suffer occupation and blockade by the murderous regime of Israel.

Gaza’s resistance can be compared to that of the Jewish people in the “Warsaw Ghetto” Poland in World War II, where Jewish resistance challenged the maniacal occupiers and oppressors of their day. Today in Palestine, the same situation is faced by the people of Gaza where resistance by an imprisoned population is met by the brute force of a maniacal Zionist oppressor and a madman bent on starting wars all over the Middle East…and your government supports this Israeli Madman Netanyahu and his regime that pushes “Ethnic Cleansing.”

Would you trust your government to make moral and ethical decisions on your behalf?

Western Governments are morally bankrupt and cannot be trusted to do anything honest or ethical because they approve of the most horrendous of crimes against humanity, “War” and “Ethnic Cleansing”.

Put yourself in the position of the Palestinian people, imagine if your community or country is occupied by a foreign nation where you are surrounded by an aggressive military blockade by land, sea, and air and where survival depends on tunnels to maintain the lives of your children or the few trucks of food allowed in for minimal subsistence living…you have no means to take care of anyone and when your children get sick there is no medicine to take care of them. If you go to the border and complain you risk being shot and killed by a ruthless Israeli military that is of the opinion that you are nothing but animals and deserve what you get. When anyone resists the occupation the whole community is subject to massive destruction by military attack campaigns. If your citizens manage to fire a few bullets back at them, you’re labelled terrorists by the leaders of the international community where the permission to attack is given to the occupier.

Being Irish decent and coming from 700 years of oppression, I understand the mental anguish that the people of Gaza are experiencing and like my ancestors before me, the Palestinian people have a moral right to fight for their freedom even if the odds are decidedly against them by one of the World’s largest military killing machines. What is terrorism but a label used by an occupation force on those that resist occupation?

Your leaders are backing the mass murder and ethnic cleansing of Palestine. How do you feel about that?

What will you do?

The next time I bump into anyone that sides with the Zionist agenda, I will ask them to look into their children’s eyes and tell them that they support the slaughter of innocent women and children…I will also question their ethics or logic and ask them if it is because their Television tells them to back Israeli ethnic cleansing of Palestine, is it because they support their political leaders no matter what they do, or because they just side with mass murder?

My advice to anyone that will listen…get up and oppose Israel and anyone that stands with them with every fibre of your being. Use common sense, moral and ethical positions, human rights, and empathy for your fellow mankind because if you do not, the events that happen in Palestine will come back in ways you never imagined. As goes Palestine, so goes the rest of the World.

Tell your political leaders to "fuck off" and just “Stop the Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Israel!” You have to get really mad!!

Governing policy has never really changed much in Quebec or Canada, regardless of perception of who makes the laws or controls the wealth.

The fact is, that the people from all the provinces and territories within Canada are controlled by an elitist group that hold power at every level of government, where legislation is used to divide and conquer via cultural and language divisions.

Keeping our communities at each others throats is the tactic used by those that control the wealth, especially when attention begins to focus on what they are really doing.

Consider that every law that is passed, by any level of government, works in favour of someone or some company that is either bent on aquiring or selling something that is not theirs or is to protect them from liability from past legislation that gave them control to buy or sell something that was not theirs.

Division has worked well for the Elite Across Canada.

Let us remember that it isn’t the little people that rule but those that control the money that rule. The people of Canada have been enslaved to serve a system put in place by the wealthy of this and other nations. The “Oligarchy” controls all aspects within the system and has cornered every market while quelling the resistance against them.

What we are told to do is go to our subservient jobs, pay taxes, and follow every law imposed on us regardless of its tone. To resist is to be imprisoned or threatened by the security system they have put in place. Ideally, the Police force is used for their own protection and not the protection of society as the lessons from the G20 meetings in Toronto, or the Student protests in Montreal clearly illustrated.

Put in our place.

When the population protests government decisions, there is complete silence by the mainstream media on the real issues surrounding the protests and a deafness towards the peoples complaints by an out of touch Parliament. They have our best interests at hand or so they tell us.

We are then told that to change the decisions they have made, we have the democratic right to make change through the political process and choose one of the parties the Oligarchy bankrolls and parades in front of us…does anyone really think there is a mainstream political party that has not been bought and paid for?

The power structure that governs us politically, socially, and economically in Canada are decidedly parasitic against everyone and are the root causes of all the economic hardships we endure and will continue to endure if something is not done. The establishment controls the wealth and power by their ownership of all the banks, land and major corporations. We are just pawns to be used in a Banking Kingdom and Fife.

One of the illusions given by those in control is that our local, Provincial, and Federal tax dollars go into taking care of the community…however, we are never allowed to know how much they collect, or where the money is spent. To make things worse, corrupt government allowed our Central Bank to give away the power to issue money.

The Bank of Canada gave away the issuance of the Canadian Dollar to privately owned banks who then started to “Loan us our own money”, PLUS, we had to pay our own money back to them with interest! This little known fact happened in 1974 under the watch, of then, Canadian Prime Minister, “Pierre Elliot Trudeau”. However, this practice of thievery was known by all other political parties and allowed to continue by every Governing Provincial and Federal Governments since.

The “National Debt” and thus “Provincial Debt” is controlled by a foreign group of elitest bankers who have taken control of all our wealth by charging us compound interest on money that was never intended for them to issue. Where before, when the Bank of Canada issued the money, we didn’t have to pay interest back because it was our own money being created by our own bank, and therefore controlled only by Canadians.

The Politicians will not return us to debt free money or even address it because they are owned by the corporate structures that control the very same avenues of theft. It does not matter which political party is in power because all parties are controlled by corporate and banking interests that run the entire power structure. Politicians will evade the banking theft question whenever pressed.

The compound interest that has taken hold of our tax dollars is the sole reason that we have soaring inflation, tax increases across the board, a loss in purchasing power, a loss of social services, increased unemployment, a rapid increase in poverty, homelessness, and rise in crime. The monetary system and those that control what has been in place since 1974 is directly responsible for our hardships.

Today in Canada we face a growing foreign takeover of all our infrastructure, wealth and resources by greedy interests. An outrageous example of this is the take over bid by Chinese "State Owned" CNOOC of the Canadian privately owned corporation NEXEN. (See video below.)

When there is no more money available to pay back debt, you lose everything of value that you have as a Nation.

Today in Quebec and Canada all our tax money is going to pay off the compound interest on the principal of a debt that is controlled by private foreign elitist bankers instead of going into the community. This fact is the sole reason why our country’s mineral and resources are being sold down the river to outside groups…here in Quebec the land and everything on it belongs to outside interests, it’s not ours…and that goes for those in Alberta, Ontario and every other Province and or territory.

The more indebted to the international banking cartel we become, the more intertwined we become in the grotesque international hatreds we see unfolding across the World. Our government has told us they have taken sides against people in other nations whom they have no business or right to interfere with. Certainly NOT in my name!!!

My plea to the Canadian people regardless of descent, origin, or status be it English, French, Jew, Muslim, black, white, purple or orange, it’s time to stand together as a unified community, as a nation, and stop the division being inflicted upon us by those that rule!

Common sense, respect, and tolerance to culture and language are expressions of unity and the tools that will free our society from this oppression we face. Standing together is our strength in battling all forms of division that the ruling elite constantly unleash upon our communities. We should be united in telling our government that “If you oppress one part of the community, you oppress all of it, and we do not support you!” We should not tolerate ANY attempts of division what so ever.

This is not a Liberal, Conservative, Separatist, or New Democratic position. It is a position of being a humanist, of having empathy for others, of mutual respect, and being what we hold deer in our hearts as "being Canadian"…To be free…really free.

It’s time to stand up and take back the control of our monetary system from the parasitic private bankers! It’s time to FORCE the government and mainstream media to back down! It’s time to change the system to one that is controlled by the people and not political representatives that cater to the wishes of the corporate few.

How Do We Make Change

How do we do it? We do it by creating direct democracy and establishing criteria that allows people to run for office based on experience in the fields that they hold. We do it by removing the private banks from control of our national currency. We do it by becoming the media, by being open to change, by becoming an economic block, and by our passion for equal rights, respect for one another and belief in the right to exist. We do it together!

No person or culture should be singled out and subject to a muzzle by fear mongering groups or individuals that base their paranoia in propaganda spread by an elitist group and their media, nor should we respect laws that force us all to conform to their racism in all its shapes and forms. No foreign individual, group, or nation should come first over the people of Canada!

Canadian lawmakers weren’t exactly in the Halloween spirit when they approved a new bill on Wednesday. The legislation makes it illegal to wear masks during riots and protests. Guilty parties could face up to 10 years in prison.

Bill C-309 passed with a vote of 153 to 126 in the Canadian Parliament. It will now move on to the Senate.

If it becomes law, mask-wearers at riots face up to 10 years in jail. Those busted wearing a disguise at an unlawful protest could be sentenced to up to five years in the big house.

The sanctions would not apply to those taking part in peaceful demonstrations or protests.

Parliamentarian Blake Richards, who sponsored the bill, says the measure is aimed at targeting the “growing threat” of vandalism and violence.

Lawmakers are particularly targeting the Blak Bloc anarchist group, whose members dress in black and hide their faces with glasses, scarves, and hoods. The group engaged in violence during the Quebec student protests earlier this year.

MPs supporting the bill are unsurprisingly thrilled that it passed through parliament.

"To have the support of the house, to get the bill through, obviously we're on the way to where we want to be, which is having the opportunity to better protect public safety," Richards said in a statement.

The legislation was brought forward as a response to the 2011 Stanley Cup riots in Vancouver.

Police documented 15,000 criminal acts during the riots, but were able to make very few charges because they couldn’t identify the people involved.

However, not everyone is so quick to support the bill. Some say it could be the beginning of a slippery slope.

"I don't think people understand the implications that it has — when does wearing a toque low on your face become a mask? Are we going to ban people from appearing in a protest because they are wearing a burqa? Are we going to say that on a cold day that people can't wear a mask?" Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae said in a statement.

Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett said the bill could have unintended consequences by encouraging pre-emptive arrests, which may lead to lawsuits by demonstrators who feel they were unlawfully detained.

Other opposition members say the bill is unnecessary because it merely criminalizes what is already criminal.

It is already illegal to wear a disguise while committing an offense, including rioting. However, unlawful assemblies do not fall under the current law.

The bill is controversial as it makes it difficult to draw a line between a peaceful demonstration and unlawful gathering, Michael Forian, reporter at CJAD Radio, told RT.

“What this law basically does is that it will criminalize people who are in protest if the police of that city deem the protest to be an unlawful assembly,” he argues.

“Let’s look at Montreal for example and any major city in Quebec, where if you are 50 people or more in a peaceful protest, a non-violent protest – that could be deemed an unlawful assembly if you have not presented your itinerary, and the directions of your protest routes to the police force of the municipality on Quebec.”

The center of superstorm Sandy has reached the US state of New Jersey. The hurricane, which was downgraded to the “post-tropical” storm, has caused 13 deaths and left over 6 million along the East Coast without power.

­The storm, packing torrential rains and wind, made landfall along the New Jersey coast near Atlantic City, the National Hurricane Center says.

Earlier, the NHC said the category 1 Hurricane Sandy had lost tropical characteristics, becoming a “post-tropical cyclone” with maximum sustained winds near 85 mph and gusts reaching 115 mph.

The storm has heavily affected many parts of New York City, with power outages and several feet of water hitting large areas of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The Statue of Liberty's torch has gone out, apparently due to extreme weather conditions.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg warned that conditions are expected to worsen, urging New Yorkers to stay inside. “Conditions outside are dangerous, and they are only going to get worse in the hours ahead,” he told a press conference.

At least 13 people have been killed by the disaster, according to AP. Casualties were reported in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

One woman has been killed by a falling sign in Toronto as high winds reached Canada.

New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that subway and bus networks are suspended and will remain closed for an unknown period of time. “Service will be restored only when it is safe to do so, and after careful inspections of all equipment, tracks and other sub-systems and bus routes. Even with minimal damage this is expected to be a lengthy process,” the MTA said in a statement.

MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota told WABC Television that subway service could be crippled for “at least a week.”

There have been reports that the main building of Brooklyn's Coney Island Hospital is on fire. Emergency services cannot reach the site, as the streets surrounding the hospital are flooded, Sheepshead Bites news blog reports.

Meanwhile, social networks users on Manhattan's Lower East Side have reported a "huge explosion" that preceded the neighborhood's power going out. Lower Manhattan now appears to be without electricity across the board after an apparent blast at the power transformer.

­As the storm pounds the East Coast, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has declared an ‘Alert’ at a power plant in Oyster Creek, New Jersey.

“The plant, currently in a regularly scheduled outage, declared the Alert at approximately 8:45 p.m. EDT due to water exceeding certain high water level criteria in the plant’s water intake structure,” it said in a statement.

Monster Storm Sandy slammed into the East Coast Monday, killing at least 16 people, hurling a record-breaking 13-foot surge of seawater at New York City and knocking out power to over 6 million people.

The massive storm was downgraded from a hurricane after it barged ashore in southern New Jersey, bringing more than 85-mph winds and a roiling wall of seawater as it moved through New York City. It sent water surging into two major commuter tunnels and into subway stations and tracks. It was unclear how much water had come in.

The 16 deaths were reported in New Jersey, New York, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Some of the victims were killed by falling trees. Police in Toronto said a woman was killed by a falling sign as high winds closed in on Canada's largest city.

The power was out for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and an estimated 6.2 million people altogether across the East, with the full extent of the storm's damage across the region unclear and unlikely to be known until daybreak.

The MTA cut power to some subway tunnels in lower Manhattan, after water came into the stations and tracks. The MTA couldn't say at this point how much damage had been done, and how much time it would take to restore everything to normal.

Consolidated Edison was prompted to cut power to part of the area to avoid storm damage. A large portion of Manhattan's FDR Drive was under water.

Reuters reported late Monday that there had been an explosion at a Consolidated Edison power station on the east side of Manhattan. Despite earlier reports, ConEd said on Twitter no one was trapped inside the plant.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says backup power has been lost at New York University hospital and the city is working to move people out. The mayor delivered a news conference Monday night and said rain was tapering off in the city and the storm surge was expected to recede by midnight. The hospital complex is near the East River in an area of lower Manhattan where flooding has been reported.

The hurricane-turned-post-tropical cyclone, still a powerful, 900-mile-wide hybrid of several weather systems, sent 30-foot-high swells toward New Jersey, and as its eye passed over the shoreline, a surge as high as 10 feet tore into dunes and washed across boardwalks.

The state had evacuated all shore towns ahead of the strike, with Gov. Chris Christie telling residents who ignored the evacuation orders they were "both stupid and selfish."

"[It's a] very intense, very dangerous storm. People will die in this storm," Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley said Monday. "So folks will need to mind their families, stay home and hunker down."

Even homes on stilts were threatened by the massive surge, and water was cresting dunes and boardwalks from Delaware's Rehoboth Beach to Jones Beach in New York.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo shut down all major New York bridges and schools, airports and the New York Stock Exchange were closed for Tuesday. North of Atlantic City, the storm was expected to be at maximum force from about 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., with gusts up to 90 mph, especially on ocean-facing beaches. For Long Island, Connecticut, and the rest of coastal New England, the high impact winds could last until midnight, according to The Wall Street Journal’s Weather Journal.

The National Guard was deployed along the densely-populated Atlantic Coast, and airports shut down Monday afternoon as the massive system churned in from the sea, creating 30-foot swells off the Jersey shore. The storm is on a collision course with a winter storm and a cold front, and high tides from a full moon make it a rare hybrid storm that could be felt all the way to the Great Lakes. Still, it could be worse – the storm could be well inland when evening high tide comes, some six hours after landfall.

Sandy has already been blamed for 69 deaths in the Caribbean before it began traveling northward, parallel to the Eastern Seaboard.

In Washington, President Obama urged the millions in Sandy’s path to heed warnings from local and state officials.

“When they tell you to evacuate, you need to evacuate,” Obama said. “Don't delay, don't pause, don't question the instructions that are being given because this is a powerful storm."

States of emergency were declared from North Carolina, where gusty winds whipped steady rain on Sunday, to Connecticut. Delaware ordered mandatory evacuations for coastal communities on Sunday, while Ocean City, Md., also was evacuated.

Tens of thousands of people were ordered to evacuate in anticipation of the storm, including 375,000 in lower Manhattan and other parts of New York City. At least 50,000 were ordered to evacuate in Delaware alone and 30,000 in Atlantic City, N.J., where the city's 12 casinos were forced to shut down for only the fourth time in the 34-year history of legalized gambling there.

Airlines canceled more than 8,962 flights and Amtrak suspended passenger train service across the Northeast for Monday and Tuesday.

New York and Philadelphia shut down their subways, buses and commuter trains Sunday night and announced that schools would be closed on Monday. Boston, Washington and Baltimore also called off school. In Washington and New Jersey, Metrorail and PATH train services were canceled.

In Connecticut, the number of power outages began climbing as the storm moved through the state. In New York City, 250,000 homes were reported to be without power. Fox News

Canadian police urge Parliament to pass domestic spying bill

Police across Canada are urging Ottawa to resurrect a controversial Internet surveillance bill that would allow them to monitor Canadians' digital activities in real-time without a warrant.

­The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police has made a plea to on the federal government to pass Bill C-30, also known as the Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act ahead of a gathering by the provincial and federal justice ministers next week.

The group is concerned that Parliament will be closed down before the legislation is passed.

“We have a fear that it will die on the order paper,” said Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu, who is also the president of the association. “And if it does, then our investigators will be constrained and victims will suffer greater harm because of that,” the Canadian Press reports.

Deputy police chief Warren Lemcke agreed with Chu’s assessment, saying that “right now there are gangsters out there communicating about killing someone and we can't intercept that,” as cited by CBC news.

The legislature, introduced in the Canadian Parliament last February, demands that the country’s telecommunication industry provide law enforcement with the “authority to intercept communications and to require telecommunications service providers to provide subscriber and other information, without unreasonably impairing the privacy of individuals, the provision of telecommunications services to Canadians or the competitiveness of the Canadian telecommunications industry.”

If passed, the law would also give the police the power to make it a crime to use social media as a tool to injure, alarm or harass individuals. It would also grant access to the individual’s private data such as name, address, phone number and email without a warrant.

The law would ask the companies to place tracking bugs in their programs so that police, if needed, could spy on conversations if they got the necessary legal approvals.

Until now, C-30 has remained shelved by Parliament, and has not been debated after receiving mass criticism when it was originally released.

Critics claimed that the authorities would likely use the powers to harass peaceful protestors and activists.

A number of social media protests were organized, one of which circulated personal details from the divorce files of the bill’s sponsor of the bill-Public Safety Minister’s Vic Toews.

People also marched on the streets, demanding checks to the would-be unlimited police powers.

A public opinion poll conducted by Angus Reid after the bill’s introduction concluded that "the idea of surrendering subscriber data and identifiers without a warrant” is rejected by almost two thirds of Canadians.

The ‘Frankenstorm’ Sandy is set to be unprecedented in size once it hits the US mainland Monday night. Tens of millions of people could be affected as the hybrid hurricane wreaks havoc from the East Coast to the Great Lakes on Halloween week.

­Increasingly dire warnings of powerful winds, power outages, widespread flooding, torrential downpours and even snow are being sounded in New York and other major population centers as Hurricane Sandy continues its trek up from the Caribbean.

Forecasters said Sandy is set to transform into "super storm," as the tropical storm merges with a winter storm and a cold front, threatening up to 12 inches of rainfall in some areas and heavy snow inland.

"We're looking at impact of greater than 50 to 60 million people," says Louis Uccellini, head of environmental prediction for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Set to approach the coasts of the mid-Atlantic states by Monday, Sandy is likely to make landfall in the New York metropolitan area, home to about 22 million people, on Monday night.

The Category 1 storm’s sustained winds of 75 mile per hour are nothing extraordinary, but with hurricane force winds reaching out 105 miles from its center and weaker tropical storm-force winds extending 700 miles, forecasters are on edge about its potential impact.

The powerful gusts are expected to stretch as far inland as Pennsylvania.

“These winds are just amazing in terms of their high speed. I cannot recall ever seeing model forecasts of such an expansive areal wind field with values so high for so long a time. We are breaking new ground here,” a National Weather Service meteorologist in the agency’s Washington, DC/Baltimore office said on Saturday night.

"The size of this [Sandy] alone, affecting a heavily populated area, is going to be history making," said Jeff Masters, a hurricane specialist who writes a blog for Weather Underground.

Those far away from costal areas still have cause for alarm, as forecasters predict that inland flooding from the storm surge could pose a much greater risk than the winds.

Utilities officials have also warned that rain-saturated grounds could send trees plummeting into power lines, leaving residents at home without electricity for days.

Officials have urged residents to stock up on food, water and batteries, with grocery stores being swamped in anticipation of the potential power outages.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered a mandatory evacuation of Gotham's low-lying areas, home to some 375,000 people in total.

"If you don't evacuate, you are not only endangering your life, you are also endangering the lives of the first responders who are going in to rescue you," Bloomberg said at a news conference Sunday.

The city's school system will also be closed on Monday, the mayor continued.

New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) had previously noted that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had directed "an orderly shutdown and suspension of all subway, bus and commuter railroad service" beginning at 7 pm Sunday.

Cuomo also said the decision to shut down the state's bridges and tunnels would be made on a case-by-case basis.

The city closed the subways before Hurricane Irene last year, with a Columbia University study predicting that an Irene surge just one foot higher could have shut down lower Manhattan.

Bloomberg's stark warning to residents regarding evacuation might have been spurred by fears that complacency had set in once Hurricane Irene turned out to be far weaker than initially predicted.

Irene, which struck the eastern US in August 2011, was responsible for 56 deaths and $15.6 billion dollars in damage, making it the fifth costliest storm in the country's history.

"The National Weather service believes there is increasing potential for high winds, coastal flooding and heavy rains across a broad area for a lengthy period of time Sunday through Tuesday," said Howard Glaser, director of New York State Operations.

Next door in New Jersey, hundreds of coastal residents started moving inland after Governor Chris Christie declared a state of emergency on Saturday. A dozen Atlantic City casinos were closed following the declaration, as the gambling hub is located on a barrier island. The town’s nearly 40,000 residents will be evacuated Sunday, city officials said.

Atlantic City is likely to flood, as National Weather Service Forecasters in New Jersey predicted “larger mainstream flooding for Tuesday through much of the week.”

As of 8:00 am EST, Hurricane Sandy was located roughly 395 miles south of New York City and is moving over the Atlantic parallel to the coast at a clip of 14 mph. It is expected to make a sharp westerly turn towards the coast on Sunday night.

Sandy is expected to transform into “a large and intense post-tropical cyclone as it turns toward the northwest,"Environment Canada said early Sunday morning.

"It is possible that this transition could intensify the storm slightly further prior to moving inland somewhere along the New Jersey coast late Monday night or Tuesday morning," the agency continued.

"As many as 23 million Canadians stand to be affected by this storm. That's 70% of the country," meteorologist Mark Robinson at The Weather Network warned on Saturday.

Sandy has already been felt on the campaign trail, as President Barack Obama was forced to cancel campaign stops in Virginia on Monday and Colorado on Tuesday, while Republican contender Mitt Romney canceled all his scheduled events in Virginia and moved to the crucial swing state of Ohio instead, where he is currently neck and neck with the president.

Obama said he was working with state and local officials to make sure they had ample resources to prepare for the potential disaster, which could leave millions of Americans in its wake.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is readying water, meals, blankets and other resources at support bases, the White house announced on Saturday.
