Military Keeps Camp David Open, Cuts NFL, Baseball Coverage To Troops Overseas -- Washington Examiner

President Obama has visited the Navy-run presidential retreat Camp David in central Maryland only 32 times, but it is being kept open during the government shutdown for his entertainment and security at the same time the Pentagon is cutting sports coverage to hundreds of thousands of troops around the world.

A phone call to the retreat found it open, confirming a TMZ report.

Camp David is one of the most highly secure areas in the nation and provides the president with a safe haven. The president has been known to shoot skeet at Camp David, which he most recently used for his 52nd birthday, according to CBS White House Correspondent Mark Knoller.

Obama has spent just 78 days at the retreat, choosing instead to spend his weekends in Washington and hitting military golf courses, which are also being kept open during the government shutdown.

My Comment: Here is my next scary prediction .... the next thing that they are going to cut for those who are serving overseas is the internet for personal use.

The Battle Of The Videos: Navy Vs Air Force

Naval Academy Spirit Video Absolutely Demoralizes The Air Force -- Business Insider

The Air Force Academy launched a truly abysmal attempt at co-opting Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' to respond to the Naval Academy's recent trash talking music video.

The two are due to meet on the college gridiron this weekend (shutdown pending) for their annual football game, and this month students of both schools filmed 'spirit videos' in anticipation of the clash.

The Naval Academy is hands down the winner here (if not yet on the football field).

My Comment: Yup .... Navy has a better video.

Navy-Air Force Football Game To Go On As Scheduled Despite Shutdown -- Washington Post

The Air Force-Navy football game will be played Saturday morning as scheduled after having been put on hold because of the federal government shutdown.

The decision late Wednesday night came after the Department of Defense reviewed submissions detailing how each of the service academies would support athletics without federal funds, a Pentagon spokesman said.

The Associated Press, citing an unnamed senior defense official, was the first to report that the game, the first leg of the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, will go on at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Update: Navy-Air Force, Army-Boston College will go on -- USA Today

My Comment: Not surprised by this decision. Cancelling it would have "pissed-off" a lot of establishment figures.

Navy-Air Force Football Game In Jeopardy Because Of Shutdown; Department Of Defense Cancels Other Service Academy Games -- Washington Post

The Department of Defense has suspended all intercollegiate athletics at the service academies because of the government shutdown, Navy announced in a statement released on Tuesday.

The status of Navy’s football game on Saturday morning against Air Force in Annapolis remains in doubt. Midshipmen spokesman Scott Strasemeier said in the statement that a decision on whether to postpone the game will be made before noon on Thursday.

“At this stage we’re taking it basically a half a day at a time, holding our breath that they can bring it to resolution,” Navy Athletic Director Chet Gladchuk said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “The game on Saturday, I mean it’s a huge issue. The stage is set for one of the most significant event statements we’ve had in a long time, so the timing couldn’t be worse.”

Oracle Pulls Off Stunning Comeback In America's Cup -- USA Today

SAN FRANCISCO – Capping the greatest comeback in America's Cup history, Oracle Team USA trailed at the start of the race but sailed away from Emirates Team New Zealand on Wednesday to retain the Cup in a winner-take-all decider.

After falling behind 8-1, the American team under never-say-die skipper Jimmy Spithill captured eight consecutive races to win 9-8 in the first-to-nine-wins series. Oracle won 11 races but was hit with a two-race penalty for cheating in a warm-up race with smaller boats.
